Proven Literacy Growth in Grades K–2
An independent study by LXD Research evaluated the RCF Model School approach across three schools serving 1,691 K–2 students over two years (2022–2024). Using nationally normed STAR Reading assessments, researchers measured student growth and grade-level proficiency.
The Results
Growth Beyond National Norms
In Year 2 of implementation, students demonstrated significantly higher literacy growth than national averages, with first and second graders showing statistically significant gains.
Exceptional Gains for Struggling Readers
Students starting below the 10th percentile exceeded expected growth by:
- 78% in Kindergarten
- 198% in 1st Grade
- 214% in 2nd Grade
Students in urgent need of intervention showed annual growth up to 3x higher than national norms.
More Students Reaching Proficiency
By the end of Year 2:
- 79% of Kindergarten students met benchmark
- 78% of 1st graders met benchmark
- 82% of 2nd graders met benchmark
Statistically significant gains were observed across all grades.
