OG Training Information
RCF facilitates training of teachers in Orton-Gillingham, which is considered the gold standard in literacy instruction for ALL students and vital for students with dyslexia. The training we provide is the best-of-the-best through a Fellow in the Orton-Gillingham Academy (formerly known as the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators/AOGPE). To learn more about the Academy, please go to www.ortonacademy.org.
Currently, RCF offers both the Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator training (first 30 hours) and the Orton-Gillingham Associate Level Training (second 30 hours). The Classroom Educator training focuses on the principles and fundamentals of the Orton-Gillingham Approach. This class will provide an introductory understanding of dyslexia, characteristics of the dyslexic learner, specific procedures for teaching these students primarily in reading and spelling, and the foundation for class or small group assessment and lesson planning. This course does not certify you in Orton-Gillingham. You will receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of this course and this coursework is required and applies towards certification at the Classroom Educator Level. For more information about the Orton-Gillingham Approach and Certification, please visit the website of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators at www.ortonacademy.org.
The Associate Level training has an application process to be accepted. This course focuses on analyzing testing data, vocabulary development, writing development, and Latin morphology. It is relevant for all educators, but especially for individuals working with students with dyslexia and/or older students (Grades 4 and up). Completion of the Classroom Educator course through an OGA Fellow is a mandatory prerequisite.
Included with training is the implementation support from the OG Implementation Team. This consists of meetings and school visits if you are local to Orange County, FL. Our team is able to provide virtual support if you are not in our geographic location.
Good news, OCPS teachers! The Orton Gillingham Classroom Educator course has been approved by the county for the 40 hour reading requirement from the DOE. Please contact David Gorham if you have any questions. david.gorham@ocps.net
How Much Does it Cost?
Traditionally OG training can be costly – making it inaccessible to most educators and parents. RCF is committed to making OG training accessible to all educators so that ALL children are afforded the fundamental right to learn to read, write and spell. Training costs $350 per trainee (regardless of the course taken – Classroom Educator or Associate, current employment or status). The exceptions to this include: District leaders, Principals and Assistant Principals (the number of these spaces is limited per training session at the training Fellow’s discretion), RCF-selected OG Model School educators and scholarship attendees (also limited in number per training session) all of whom can attend for free.
The initial cost of $350 will continue to include class materials for the training, 3 meetings with RCF’s OG Implementation Team (2 via Calendly and 1 Observation), access to all of RCF’s Monthly Teacher University Sessions, inclusion in RCF’s private Facebook page for OG trained teachers, inclusion on the RCF email list for advance notice of upcoming opportunities, events, training and more. This price also includes lunch for in person trainings.
Schools or individuals who wish to receive additional observations will pay $50/video or virtual observation or $100/per person for in-person observations (and we will require that 5 or more teachers would be observed for an in-person observation request).

Teacher University
Teacher University is a free monthly webinar held via Zoom which covers best practices, gives additional resources, and presents up-to-date research on a different topic each month. These are typically held the third Wednesday of each month during the school year. While it is not a requirement to have been trained in OG in order to attend Teacher University webinars, it is helpful. Registration will open soon for 2022-2023 Teacher University.
