OG Training Courses
The Orton-Gillingham Approach
Literacy is a right, not a privilege.

Classroom Educator
The Classroom Educator training requires 35 hours of coursework with the option to earn an additional 5 hour certificate by completing homework.
The Classroom Educator course focuses on the principles and fundamentals of the Orton-Gillingham approach and will include: an introductory understanding of dyslexia and characteristics of the dyslexic learner, specific procedures for teaching reading and spelling in whole and small groups, and using informal assessments to plan for instruction.
Other content includes phonemic awareness, phonograms, syllable types, syllable division, spelling rules, basic affixes, and suffix rules. This is content that any teacher should have, but it is vital for all K-2 teachers.
You will receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of this course. Please note that this course alone does not certify you in Orton-Gillingham. Practicum is required for accreditation. Reach out to practicum@reedcharitablefoundation.org for more information.

Associate Level
This 70-hour course includes 65 hours of live instruction and 5 hours of asynchronous assignments, which must be completed by the end of the course. Key areas of focus include the structure of the English language (speech sounds, phonics patterns, and phonemic awareness), the dyslexic learner profile, analysis of formal assessment data, vocabulary and writing development, Latin morphology, and more. While valuable for all educators, this course is especially relevant for those working with students with dyslexia.
Upon completion, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. Please note that this course alone does not certify you in Orton-Gillingham. It fulfills the coursework requirement for Associate Level accreditation through the Orton-Gillingham Academy. Completion of a supervised practicum is required for accreditation. For more information about the practicum, please contact practicum@reedcharitablefoundation.org.

Refresher
RCF hosts in-person refresher training throughout the year. These refresher courses are one day and provide an overview of our Classroom Educator Training. It is highly recommended that you attend Classroom Educator first.
This refresher will not cover every aspect of the training. At the end of the training our RCF team will help get you started: review your scope and sequence, determine the best pacing for your class, and help build your first lessons.
RCF also offers a self paced virtual refresher that you can register for you to take at your own speed. This refresher will be an overview of what was taught during the Classroom Educator Training.
Private Training

RCF will host a private training for your school, for up to 20 participants. This training can be held at your school location or virtual and can be customized to a week or 1 day a week (5 total days) that fits with your school’s schedule – depending on our team members availability. If your school is interested in learning more about scheduling a private training with our team, please e-mail info@reedcharitablefoundation.org for more information.
