Aligned with KPS standards through the Center for Effective Reading Instruction, this course prepares educators to effectively teach all components of reading — including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension — using strategies grounded in the latest research on how children learn to read.
Participants will learn to identify and address reading difficulties early, apply diagnostic data to guide instructional decisions, and implement instructional routines that reflect a structured literacy approach. Morphology
In this course, there will be a brief history of the English language and its influences. The different layers of the English language will be examined, with a strong emphasis on Latin morphology and its significance in vocabulary instruction.
Additionally, interactive activities and strategies for teaching Latin and Greek morphemes, as well as vocabulary, will be shared for implementation with students.

Writing
RCF’s Writing Training equips educators with the essential tools to effectively teach writing, starting with the foundational skills students need to become confident, competent writers. This training focuses on building sentence-level skills, developing strong paragraph structure, and examining the structure of 5-paragraph essays. Taking this course ensures that every child you teach gains the ability to communicate clearly and powerfully through writing.

Classroom Educator Training
The OGA Classroom Educator training requires 35 hours of coursework with a required 5 hour asynchronous homework component.
The Classroom Educator course focuses on the principles and fundamentals of the Orton-Gillingham approach and will include: an introductory understanding of dyslexia and characteristics of the dyslexic learner, specific procedures for teaching reading and spelling in whole and small groups, and using informal assessments to plan for instruction.
Other content includes phonemic awareness, phonograms, syllable types, syllable division, spelling rules, basic affixes, and suffix rules. This content is essential for all K-2 teachers.
You will receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of this course. Please note that this course alone does not certify you in Orton-Gillingham. Practicum is required for accreditation. Click here for more information on practicum.

Associate Level Training
This OGA 70-hour course includes 65 hours of live instruction and 5 hours of asynchronous assignments, which must be completed by the end of the course. Key areas of focus include the structure of the English language (speech sounds, phonics patterns, and phonemic awareness), the dyslexic learner profile, analysis of formal assessment data, vocabulary and writing development, Latin morphology, and more. While valuable for all educators, this course is especially relevant for those working with students with dyslexia.
Upon completing coursework, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. Please note that this course alone does not certify you in Orton-Gillingham. It fulfills the coursework requirement for Associate Level accreditation through the Orton-Gillingham Academy. Completion of a supervised practicum is required for accreditation.
